BTL Celebrates World Telecommunication and Information Society Day 2008
"Connecting Persons with Disabilities: ICT Opportunities for All"
The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) sets aside World Telecommunication and Information Society Day each year to bring together the most influential representatives of Government and the telecommunications industry. This is to stimulate the interchange of ideas, knowledge and technology for the optimum benefit of the local and global community.
This year's World Telecommunication and Information Society Day is being celebrated under the theme "Connecting Persons with Disabilities: ICT Opportunities for All." This theme was chosen to address the special requirements of persons with disabilities. Through this theme ITU urges its members to address the special requirements of persons with disabilities in their national e-strategies. In addition, the ITU encourages the design and production of Information Communication Technologies (ICT) equipment and services suited to their needs.
In observation of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, BTL will be hosting its annual open day and exhibition on Wednesday, May 14th, 2008. Visitors will get a better understanding and appreciation of the Company's operations, technological advancements, and vision for the future. Additionally, in observance of the theme, BTL is partnering with the CARE (The Community Agency for the Rehabilitation and Education for Persons with Disabilities) to showcase how advances in telecommunications positively impact those in our community with disabilities.
World Telecommunication and Information Society Day is an opportune time for the public to see and learn more about the Company's contribution to the development of Telecommunications in Belize. BTL's open day will be held at the Belize City Center, commencing with the official opening ceremonies at 9 a.m. followed by the exhibition between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. |
