BTL Adopts Bethel Primary School

Belize City, Belize Tuesday, June 19th, 2007 – Belize Telemedia Limited will on Wednesday June 20th, 2007 at 2 p.m. hold a special ceremony to launch the Company's "Adopt a School" Program and acknowledge Bethel Primary School as the first school to benefit from this new and exciting initiative.
BTL's "Adopt a School" Program is aimed at improving the educational standards in Belize by targeting and uplifting one of the neediest educational institutions in our country. With the assistance of the Ministry of Education's Planning Unit, Bethel Primary school was chosen and will officially be adopted by the Company in the presence of the Minister of Education, Hon. Francis Fonseca.
BTL's "Adopt a School" program will allow the company the opportunity to enhance the educational standard and image of Bethel primary School by contributing to the improvement of their infrastructure, facilities and resources for the benefit of the entire student population and staff. Under its "Adopt a School" program, the company will develop and support the implementation of key resources including functional computer laboratories, well equipped and resourceful libraries, educational social programs and an overall safe learning environment.
By adopting this school, BTL will again positively impact the lives of more than 100 students, with the hope of instilling in them the importance of education and self development. The success of this program will depend on far more than just the financial contribution of the Company. It will also depend on the efforts and dedication of BTL's employees. The involvement of staff will play a critical role in transforming the lives of these children in a positive way. For this reason the Company is also introducing a "Mentorship Program" so that employees can become mentors and make a difference.
Under the mentorship program, volunteer employees will assist students in developing their learning skills, organize school clubs and co-ordinate a book drive. Employees will also have the opportunity to assist in diverse hands-on activities that will directly enhance the image of the school. Such activities include the re-organizing of classrooms and technical assistance with the computer lab.
BTL's "Adopt a School" Program will not only put smiles on the faces of these children, but will forever create a difference in their lives and strengthen their family unit. The company is pleased to be the pioneer of this groundbreaking program which will provide much needed support to many of our teachers and students with the goal of achieving educational excellence. The program is a three year commitment and will be carried out in three phases of one year each. This first phase is an initial investment of $50,000.
This "Adopt a School" program now adds to BTL's free High School Scholarship Program, BTL's free Internet to schools program and the other ongoing educational programs supported by the Company in its aim to build the community through its support of Education. |
