Internet To School The Company's social responsibility in the area of Education is not complete without providing one of the most valuable research tools in the world – the Internet. In 1995 BTL introduced its "Internet to Schools" Program, giving free Internet access to both secondary and tertiary Level Educational Institutions. The program has so far given over 15,000 students countrywide, the opportunity to gain a wealth of knowledge through resources available on the Internet. As a part of the Internet to schools program, schools benefit from dedicated Internet access at a connection speed of 128 kbps. This is provided to them 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, free of cost. Educational institutions countrywide also attain their own personal E-mail addresses. To date there are 30 schools on the Internet to Schools Program. The company will expand this program to Primary Schools as well in the very near future.
BTL's "Internet to Schools" Program is a part of the Company's ongoing "Stay in School Campaign", that will continue to develop and expand. Providing access to the information superhighway is one of the many BTL Programs aimed at enhancing education in Belize. The company has also contributed immensely towards other educational activities and ventures. Such opportunities are taken by sponsoring school equipment such as computers, furniture, fax machines, telephone lines, books, and other monetary contributions. Our company similarly maintains community interest and rapport through our sponsorship and participation in the feeding programs of many schools, which enables us to touch base with the wider Belizean population. |
